National Putaco Day Celebrates Unity and Diversity of Mexican and Salvadoran Cultures.

On May 20th in Bell, Ca communities across the country are coming together to mark the first annual Putaco Day, a national holiday that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of both Mexico and El Salvador.

Putaco Day is a day of unity and diversity, bringing together people from all walks of life to celebrate the shared traditions and values of Mexican and Salvadoran cultures. The day is named after the two national dishes of the two countries – pupusas and tacos – and is meant to symbolize the coming together of the two cultures in a spirit of friendship and cooperation.

“Putaco Day is a celebration of our shared heritage and our differences,” said Edgar Preciado owner of Beerthug Brewing. “It’s a chance for us to come together and celebrate the things that make us unique, while also recognizing the common threads that bind us together.”

The day is being marked with a range of events and activities, including food, music and Comedy performances,  Los Bayuncos the originators of the “Putaco” name will be offering special menus that combine the flavors of pupusas and tacos, while a select group of small businesses will showcase their culturally inspired products.

Putaco Day was created by the San Francisco-based group “Los Bayuncos,” who wanted to celebrate the culinary and cultural contributions of both Mexico and El Salvador. The event will be hosted by Salvadoran comedian Hoozay, who will introduce the various activities and performances throughout the day.

Putaco Day is not a government-recognized holiday, but it has gained support from community leaders and cultural organizations across the country. Organizers hope that the day will become an annual event that brings together people from all backgrounds to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of both Mexico and El Salvador.

“We believe that celebrating our diversity is the key to building stronger, more resilient communities,” said Gabriel Garcia, a member of the organizing committee for Putaco Day. “By coming together to celebrate our shared heritage, we can build bridges of understanding and cooperation that will benefit us all.”
