How Cutting Edge Installations Are Bringing Professional Tennis Courts into the Home

Sport continues to be a popular and lucrative aspect of general entertainment for people around the world, and the added benefits for health and fitness make this something that should continue to be encouraged. From a young age, many people are keen to replicate their sporting heroes by participating in the same sports – however, for many; it can be difficult to access suitable facilities.

Nowhere is this more pertinent than in tennis. As one of the oldest sports in the world, tennis relies heavily on a quality playing surface – which both aids player mobility and the movement of the ball. As with the top professionals, amateur tennis players have their preferences of playing surface, whether it’s grass or clay, and the only way to replicate the exciting to-and-fro freneticism of the professional game is to play it on an authentic and well-maintained court.

Achieving this takes specialist knowledge and technical knowhow, but it is possible to bring the professional tennis court to the home. CrowAll Surface Contractors are a team of tennis court contractors based in Ontario, who specialize in building tennis courts and other sport surfaces. They are the only company in the industry to use laser-guided grading, where optimized grading beams work to create a customized level playing surface that is built to last for at least 25 years.

CrowAll carry out the installation, resurfacing and maintenance of a range of clay surfaces, such as Har-tru red and green clay, and European clay. These surfaces use ClayTech, which is a clay-based surface comprised of stone and/or brick, which combines low maintenance with robust all-weather performance. CrowAll can also install artificial grass and turf, the advantages of which include less maintenance than real grass, and a greater resistance to easy damage.

For players desiring the hard court experience, the CrowAll team also specialize in an asphalt penetration surface, which takes layers of stone and sand and sprays them with liquid asphalt. Requiring no maintenance, this type of surface replicates hard courts but with a soft asphalt composition, which also provides a more comfortable landing to any impacts from a fall.

Repair and restoration are also often required for existing tennis courts, and this is especially so during and after periods of harsh winters. CrowAll has partnered with Laykold to develop two products that possess superior acrylic latex coating: the LaykoldNuSurf and Color Flex Acrylic Paint System extend a court’s life by hiding and preventing fine to small surface cracks, maintaining the speed and colour of the court for longer.

When constructing a tennis court, the CrowAll team performs a complete job by focusing on all aspects, including the aesthetics – a full landscape plan and design, interlocking pathways, patios and retaining walls, professional drainage systems, and excavation, base install and fencing. They also take steps to minimise the risks from extreme weather and excessive moisture, such as cracking. Laser-guided grading and top-level acrylic coating means that CrowAll’s work ensures maximum protection against the weather and general wear and tear.
