“While Zoom is not a perfect substitute for human contact it is much better than simply a phone call or an email”, says Squire. He adds, “It’s nice because we can loop in accountants, legal advisors, bankers, Realtors, or anyone else who is important in the transaction so we can all get on the same page together”.

“It’s a great format for 1031 exchanges because we can screen share, share flow charts, numbers, contracts and really have all the decisionmakers in the room”, says Squire. He adds, “Even if it’s just me, the Realtor and the client, or even the title company, we can build a better team faster”.

“We know that some clients really want to have that face-to-face meeting, eyeball you and become educated on the exchange process”, says Squire. He adds, “Online meetings on phones or laptops is a great way to feel connected to the process and your advisors in these unusual times”.

Zoom for Realtors Training

“Our Montana 1031 exchange company has been asked recently by several real estate firms to participate in their own office meeting Zoom calls”, says Squire. He adds, “It’s a great opportunity for Realtors to open up and ask questions to help clarify their own knowledge”.

“So many new Realtors have come into the profession over the past 5 years and now, with COVID, large group face-to-face meetings are just not possible”, says Squire. He adds, “Once they hear that we can Zoom call with them and their clients together they are really excited about the prospect”.

“The other aspect of Zoom is that it is a wonderful opportunity to educate Realtors about 1031 exchange during weekly Zoom office meetings – everyone is working remote right now”, says Squire. He adds, “That is not likely to change with the second strain of the virus coming into existence because there is not a vaccine for that”.

“Remote working is now the norm in most professions and my daughter, who is a stock trader, has worked remotely for a significant amount of time this year”, says Squire, He adds, “I think companies are quickly realizing that employee performance is not degraded and that they don’t have to own a lot of commercial real estate to have a great workforce – this does not bode well for commercial real estate”.
